Global Shipments Declined by 11% in Q1

A report by Canalys stated that the Russia-Ukrainian conflict, the lockdown in China and a surge in Omicron created an uncertain business environment, resulting in dampened performance in global smartphone sales in Q1.

This was set against the backdrop of a sluggish seasonal demand pattern.

In the first quarter of this year, smartphone shipments fell by 11%; however, the upswing is that the component shortages that have plagued the industry are expected to improve ahead of forecasts.

Huawei continues to innovate and a new trademark application in Europe on 28 March this year points to the development of a new innovation for smartwatches.

Aptly named Huawei Watch Buds, this trademark application reads “smartwatches; wrist watches; combined smartwatch and earphone apparatus; smartwatches containing earphones; smartphones in the shape of a watch; headsets for virtual reality games.”
